Upgrading flat panel doors for loft conversions

Upgrading flat panel doors using Envirograf Product 138: ESMP/900 and Product 42: HW System

Achieving FD30 30 minutes fire integrity to BS476: Part 22 1987

Door thickness 32mm and above

  1. Prepare door (room side) by rubbing down lightly with fine emery paper to achieve a key and remove any flaking paint
  2. Apply Envirograf ESMP/900 intumescent fire card to panels on risk face (room side) using IA intumescent adhesive
  3. Apply to stiles/rails & beading (room side) - 2 x coats HW01/flex white intumescent coating and 1 x coat HW04/S white matt spirit based undercoat (can be applied over card on panels as well as stiles and rails to give even finish)
  4. Fit IS14 (10mm x 4mm) fire seals to door edges or NS/SDS surface mounted fire seals to door frame
  5. Fit 3 x CE stamped 100mm stainless steel or polished brass hinges to all doors & HP32/Kits hinge paper behind hinges

Upgrading flat panel doors using Envirograf Product 38: ES/MP900 & Product 42: HW SYSTEM

Achieving FD30/S - 30 minutes fire integrity BS476: Part 22 1987

SYSTEM 1 – HALF HOUR DOOR 40mm – 44mm THICK (TEST REPORT:LPC TE 83039)

The styles and rails being 40mm – 44mm thick are half hour fire rated; only the panels need to be treated.

  1. The panels and any beading need to be rubbed down with sand paper.
  2. Brush IA Intumescent Adhesive to the panels at 4m2 per litre.
  3. Apply the Intumescent Fire Card, ES/MP900 (grey side), to the panels on the risk side only.
  4. Paint any beading with 2 coats of HWO1/F White Intumescent Paint at 8m2 per litre per coat and 1 coat of HW04/S White Satin Protective Coating at 10m2 per litre.
  5. Apply 1 brush coat of any proprietary white undercoat and 1 coat of gloss paint to the ES/MP900 Fire Card when dry (normally 4 hours).

SYSTEM 2 – HALF HOUR DOORS 34mm – 39mm THICK (TEST REPORT: TRADA FR1755)

  1. Follow steps 1 to 3 above, again to panels on the risk side only.
  2. Follow step 4 above in regard to beading, but also include stiles and rails, again on the risk side only.
  3. Follow step 5 as above.

SYSTEM 3 – HALF HOUR DOORS 31mm – 33mm THICK (TEST REPORT: TRADA RF95088)

  1. Apply Intumescent Fire Card, ES/MP900 (grey side) with IA Adhesive as above but on both sides of panels.
  2. Paint all stiles, rails and any beading with 2 coats of HW01/F White Intumescent Paint at 8m2 per litre per coat and 1 coat of HW04/S White Satin Protective Coating at 10m2 per litre.  Again on both sides of the door.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL DOORS SHOULD THEN HAVE EITHER SURFACE MOUNTED OR ROUTED INTUMESCENT FIRE AND SMOKE SEALS FITTED TO BRING THEM UP TO THE FULL HALF HOUR FIRE RATING.

Upgrading lathe and plaster ceilings and partitions fire protection - one hour to BS 476 PART 21: 1987

Envirograf Product 105: EP/CP Intumescent Coating system

Envirograf EP/CP Intumescent Coating system can achieve 60 minutes fire integrity.

We recommend the following procedure and loading rates

Please Note  - The moisture content of the ceiling & partitions must be between 10 –12% prior to application.

  1. Clean ceiling to remove any dirt, grease and remove any wall or lining paper, etc.
  2. Scrape off any loose paint and remove and lime or distemper by washing down with warm water and sugar soap.
  3. Allow to dry.
  4. Rub the ceiling down with fine sand paper to achieve a key.
  5. Apply 1 x brush coat Envirograf ES/Stabond to seal the porous ceiling to achieve a loading of 10 sq metres per litre
  6. Apply 2 x brush coats of Envirograf EP/CP Intumescent Coating to achieve a total loading of 4 square metres per litre.
  7. Apply 1 x brush coat of Envirograf AEC white acrylic emulsion coating to achieve a loading of 5 square metres per litre

Example:  100m2 of ceiling area will require 10 litres of ES/Stabond, 25 litres of EP/CP and 20 litres of AEC.

PLEASE NOTE: Labels are supplied to adhere to the ceilings to prove that the Intumescent Coatings have been applied, and for future reference for Fire Officers and Building Control Officers.

Envirograf Product 105: EP/CP Intumescent Coating system

Envirograf EP/CP Intumescent Coating system can achieve 60 minutes fire integrity.

We recommend the following procedure and loading rates

Please Note  - The moisture content of the ceiling & partitions must be between 10 –12% prior to application.

  1. Clean painted ceiling to remove any dirt, grease and remove any wall or lining paper, etc.
  2. Abrade ceiling with sand paper to remove any loose paint
  3. Allow to dry.
  4. Rub the ceiling down with fine sand paper to achieve a key.
  5. Apply 2 x brush coats of Envirograf EP/CP Intumescent Coating to achieve a loading of 8 square metres per litre per coat
  6. Apply 1 x brush coat of Envirograf AEC white acrylic emulsion coating to achieve a loading of 5 square metres per litre

Example: 100m2 of ceiling area will require 25 litres of EP/CP and 20 litres of AEC.

PLEASE NOTE: Labels are supplied to adhere to the ceilings to prove that the Intumescent Coatings have been applied, and for future reference for Fire Officers and Building Control Officers.

Achieve Class 0 & Class 1 Surface spread of flame

To achieve Class 0 & Class 1 Surface spread of flame to BS 476 Parts 6 & 7: 1987 and EU/EN.SB1 A1-B/S1/DO EN13501 Parts EN13823 2002 & EN119252 2002 Ignibality

Using Envirograf Product 92: ES/VFR Clear intumescent coating system

Internal Application - bare timber (or previously coated)

  1. Clean timber surfaces to remove any dirt grime etc
  2. Rub down with very fine sandpaper to achieve a key
  3. Apply 2 x brush coats ES/VFR clear intumescent coating at 12 sq metres per litre per coat
  4. Apply 1 x brush coat HW/Premier water based clear protective coating at 10 sq metres per litre

External Application

  1. Clean timber surfaces to remove any dirt grime etc
  2. Rub down with fine sandpaper to achieve a key
  3. Apply 1 x brush coat HWAP clear high adhesion primer at 10 sq metres    per litre
  4. Apply 2 x brush coats ES/VFR clear intumescent coating at 12 sq metres per litre per coat
  5. Apply 2 x brush coats HW03/UV spirit based clear protective coating at 10 sq metres per litre per coat
